Sunday @ Asbury Chapel

Sunday @ Asbury Chapel

Have you ever wondered why some churches grow and others decline or remain stagnant. The answer lies in what they believe, practice, who they worship, are they faithful to what the written scripture tells them. Asbury Chapel is a growing community of believers in Lincoln sitting at the corner of Highways W and Y near Foley, Missouri. We took a stand over two years ago to follow the teachings of scripture.

Today Asbury Chapel is different than who we were. We invite you to join us this Sunday for worship. Our service begins at 9:30 AM with coffee at 8:30 AM. We have church for children that is designed for their age group however they are welcome to stay with the adults in worship.

We are completing a series on the Gifts of the Holy spirit this Sunday with a message on the Gift of Tongues and Interpretation of the message given. We believe the body of Christ is gifted with at least one gift is given to every believer.  Our series concludes Sunday with a message on the gift of tongues and their interpretation. Hope you can join us.

Message Notes for Sunday.

1 Corinthians 12:4 – 12 & 14:18 – 19

What is speaking in tongues.

A.           Key Aspects of Speaking in Tongues:

It can appear – (Types)

1.           as private prayer language, or

2.           public utterance requiring interpretation.

3.           Associated with the infilling of the Holy Spirit

There are five points in the New Testament where speaking in tongues is referred to explicitly:

1.           Mark 16:17

2.           Acts 2

3.           Acts 10:46

4.           Acts 19:6

5.           1 Cor 12, 13, 14

B.           Interpretation of tongues

The gift of interpretation is the supernatural enablement to express in an intelligible language an utterance spoken in an unknown tongue.

Much of what is known about this gift was recorded by St. Paul in 1 Corinthians 14. In this passage, guidelines for the proper use of the gift of tongues were given.

Both of the gifts require faith (as do all gifts).

I came to Asbury in June 2020 right after COVID and enjoy being in this great church. We have several things going on that can be seen on our website @ asburyumcfoley.org. We invite you to attend our service at 2704 South Highway W in Foley, MO. I am confident you will be blessed.
