Romans 13: 1- 4 (NKJV)
13 “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4 For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.”
We see a great amount of criticism toward our government. Many over the years have criticized the president, his cabinet, the Supreme Court, you name it. Many prefer criticism rather than grace.
How much better off would we be if we prayed for our leaders rather than if we criticized them? You cannot curse someone or something and praise God at the same time. We must understand that principle.
Not long ago Tim Kane a senator for Virginia disagreed with a witness who said” our rights come from God and our privileges come from the government.” Even the writers of the Declaration of Independence stated that. “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” is a foundational phrase from the 1776 Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution. It defines “unalienable rights” endowed by a Creator, establishing the moral basis for American government, whereas the Constitution sets the legal framework, often citing “life, liberty, or property”
Let me challenge you to pray for our government for the next two weeks and criticize it not. Here is what will happen to you from Romans 13:3b – 4 “Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4 For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.”
God Bless, pray for our government.
