Acts 9:17 – 19 (NKJV)
17 “And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 18 Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized.”
We read a great deal about the Apostle Paul both before his conversion and following but what about the guy sent to minister to him? Not a great deal is said about Ananias.
Ananias had to be man of faith. Saul was stricken blind on the road to Damascus. When blinded his response was “Who are you, Lord?” I’m uncertain if Saul had a clue what was going on but he did ask. Jesus response was a simple yet profound one. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.” Goads were sticks used for prodding cattle.
We get down to verse ten and Jesus is calling Ananias to go speak to this brutal man named Saul. What Ananias didn’t know was all the God had done in the life of Saul. Jesus spoke to him and told him of the things that had occurred, yet Ananias was uncertain and tried to argue but faith and obedience allowed him to say “Yes.” Is that what it still takes in 2026 to follow Jessus?
What would have happened if Ananias had not been faithful and obedient? God calls us to do miraculous things that only we can do. Are we hesitant, hoping someone else will volunteer? Remember when we are obedient God is glorified.
God Bless.
