2 Thessalonians 1:1 – 4 (NKJV)

“Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: 2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other, 4 so that we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure,”

“Misunderstanding”
Some background about the writing of this book.

Paul wrote this book following about a year after writing his first book o this church. His first book, which we just concluded was one of comfort and encouragement. Paul would call out something when it was wrong but he also was a man of encouragement.

The church was continuing to grow but some false teaching had entered in about the return of Jesus. As the teaching spread people were even quitting their jobs and waiting for Jesus to return. They just waited.

Paul could correct a false teaching while doing it with grace. He begins his letters with a word about what he most appreciated about them. Here he writes of their faith which he says, it “grows exceedingly.”

He also tells them how their love abounds for one another and as result of that he can boast on their behalf their patience during persecutions. We will face times of persecution the question becomes how do we handle them. What is our response to the negative things hat come to us? Although we never plan for adversity (nor should we) we must be prepared when it arrives. As a Christ Follower it will come.

God Bless.
