1 Thessalonians 5:21 – 23 (NKJV)
“Discern For Your Own Benefit”
“21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil. 23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
“Test all things” is a call from verse 20. We should never downgrade a message from God. But we should examine it to insure the Word is spoken accurately. What is found good should be overwhelmingly embraced and likewise that which is false should be shunned.
“Sanctify you” is something that comes from God. Sanctify means “to be set apart.” God does the sanctifying but we must act to keep ourselves from any sin. When Paul uses the term “spirt and soul” he is not saying there two but these words are used interchangeably.
Paul knew man is made up of body, soul (mind), and spirit. Paul again refers to the second coming of Jesus saying we must be preserved until His return. ‘
How do we do that? By seeking Him, then being set apart.
