John 1:1 – 5 (CSB)
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 All things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.”
“When the Light Shines the Darkness Disappears”
Light and darkness cannot exist at the same time. One little match can light the path of a traveler, it can light up a room, it will dispel darkness.
John is telling us the when Jesus came into the world He brought light. Life was the light of men. As celebrate Christmas in 2025 we must remember the reason Jesus came. He came to bring light. Darkness prevailed until his arrival.
The old kingdoms and empires of the world were corrupt and the Roman empire that existed when Jesus was born may have been one of the most corrupt causing Herod to kill all the baby boys under two years of age. Each of the previous empires were wicked.
Light of the world is exactly who Jesus is and that is the reason we celebrate His birth. But it is so much more that he did for us. Darkness is gone and light has come – celebrate the birth of the newborn King on a daily basis.
