Colossians 3:22 – 25 CSB)

“It’s Not About Me”

22” Slaves, obey your human masters in everything. Don’t work only while being watched, as people-pleasers, but work wholeheartedly, fearing the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people, 24 knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord. You serve the Lord Christ. 25 For the wrongdoer will be paid back for whatever wrong he has done, and there is no favoritism.”

These verse offer us a commentary of serving in the work place. The question is what do I do when I am not being watched.

I spent thirty-five years in the business world and had a wonderful career. In many of those positions I spent in the Marketing portion of the company in Market Management. During one of our tenures I was the Division Agency Manager for an insurance company living in St. Louis. There would be on occasion representatives of different departments come from our Regional Office to the filed for training and support. One particular representative always ate fast food because we were given a per diem with no accountability for expenses. It was foe whatever you wanted you were given a set amount. The rep came to St, Louis on one trip to honor a successful sales person in  my division. He took the District Manage and the agent out to lunch and forced the DM to pay for lunch even though he had and expense account for such purposes.

I tell you all that because he did these things behind the back. If he had paid for the lunch it would go a separate account and he would not collect the per diem for his meal but it would be paid for by the company, He did this for himself.

We are called as believers to do all things for the Lord. I believe that goes to all areas of our lives. In the business world as well as our personal lives. We should not need to hide or cover up anything we do.

Why, Paul sums it up in the final verse of chapter three we will be paid back for what we do.

God Bless.
