Colossian 2:8 – 10 (CSB)
“Robbery”
“Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit based on human tradition, based on the elements of the world, rather than Christ. 9 For the entire fullness of God’s nature dwells bodily in Christ, 10 and you have been filled by him, who is the head over every ruler and authority.”
Paul uses the term “takes you captive’ here to mean robbery. False teachers who are successful in getting people to believe their lies rob them of salvation, truth, and blessing. You can and I did a search of false teachers. Recently I saw a video of several who promised money, healing, and abundant blessings if you sent them money. God does not put a price on His blessings
Paul uses the word “philosophy” (love of wisdom) only appears here in the New Testament. It is used to describe the meaning of life. Those who followed the heresy that was being taught claimed to have attained but Paul equates them as full of “empty deceit.” Their teachings are full of Satanic and human elements.
Christ possesses the fullness of the God in His body. Greek philosophical thought believed it was unthinkable that God would even take on a human body but believer know He was fully human and fully divine.
Believers are secure in Him both through the imputed righteousness of Christ as well as complete sufficiency in heavenly resources to grow spiritually.
Jesus is both creator and ruler over the universe and its spiritual beings not emanating from God but God Himself.
God Bless.
