“Beware of Apostate Teachers”
Jude 10 – 11
“But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively. 11 Woe to them! For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam’s error and perished in Korah’s rebellion.”
We have been looking at the short book of Jude for the past few days and as I woke up this morning the Holy Spirit spoke to me about sin. And you know the reading today from Jude is about false teachers who have abandoned themselves for the sake of gain – that is sin. Many people are led astray by false teachers who no longer call sin what it is – sin! However, that does not get us off the hook for the sin in our lives.
These apostate teachers Jude writes about are blinded by the leadings of Satan. We have been doing a series on the “Red Letters” in the scriptures. Last week our message was on the temptations of Jesus as He was in the desert and tempted by Satan. Satan knew who Jesus was and Jesus knew who Satan was. Interesting that Jesus refers to him as the “tempter” until the third temptation when He refers to him as Satan. Jesus knew sin and Satan lives in it. Jude writes of Balaam, Balaam was a wicked prophet in the Bible and is noteworthy because, although he was a wicked prophet, he was not a false prophet. That is, Balaam did hear from God, and God did give him some true prophecies to speak. However, Balaam’s heart was not right with God, and eventually he showed his true colors by betraying Israel and leading them astray.
These who teach wrong doctrine will go like Cain, Korah, and Balaam who all rebelled against God.
As you know Cain was jealous of his brother so he killed him over a tithe to God.
Balaam devised a plan by which he was able to get King Balak to get the Israelites to worship a false God. He led them into idolatry that ultimately led to their rebuke by God.
Then Korah with 250 Jewish leaders rejected the God appointed leadership of Moses and Aaron in an attempt to impose his will upon God. All apostate teacher will meet the same end as Korah.
How can we be aware of those teaching false doctrine? Find a good Bible translation, get a good conservative commentary to study, and then by all means ask questions of your pastor. If their answers are contrary to scripture then seek a church and pastor whose teachings are in line with scriptures.
God Bless.
