“Avoid Darkness By Walking In Good Light”
Proverbs 2:16 – 22 (ESV)
“So you will be delivered from the forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words, 17 who forsakes the companion of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God; 18 for her house sinks down to death, and her paths to the departed; 19 none who go to her come back, nor do they regain the paths of life. 20 So you will walk in the way of the good and keep to the paths of the righteous. 21 For the upright will inhabit the land, and those with integrity will remain in it, 22 but the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the treacherous will be rooted out of it.”
To back track a bit from yesterday verse 12 – 15 tell us those who walk in the wicked path are described as Men of perverted speech who rejoice in what is ultimately harmful and they deceive themselves.
Like those who walk in the crooked path in the preceding description a woman who seeks to entice a man to adultery practices deception and also deceives herself and will ultimately have her house sink down to death.
The interpretation here refers to a woman who has forsaken her marriage vows when it speaks of “adulteress.” She has forsaken her marriage for another man.
Beginning in verse 20 we see a significant change. “The upright will inhabit the land” also looks at the possibility of a long life to be inherited. This life choices should be s simple one – Choose Life!
