1 Peter 1:13 – 16 (The Message)

13-16 “So roll up your sleeves, get your head in the game, be totally ready to receive the gift that’s coming when Jesus arrives. Don’t lazily slip back into those old grooves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing. You didn’t know any better then; you do now. As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way of life shaped by God’s life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness. God said, “I am holy; you be holy.”

We are into the major league playoffs with four teams vying for the opportunity to play in the World Series. I watch a few innings and I done with watching on a daily basis. There is a pitcher trying to get the hitter out while the hitter is keeping his eye on the ball hoping to connect for a hit.

In baseball a three hundred hitter is considered very good, there seems to be fewer and fewer each year. The pitchers are getting faster some exceeding one-hundred miles an a hour plus you need to stay vigilant so that you do not get hit by a baseball thrown at those speeds. Keep an eye on the ball.

In a way that is true with keeping our eye on the second coming of Jesus we must keep our eyes on Him. We must intend to hit the ball to the end keeping ourselves and our lives focused on Him.

We must remain intent on following the course that is laid before us so we do not miss the mark through complacency or in some case intentional disobedience. Our society today accepts abortion, homosexuality, dishonestly as an acceptable lifestyle. The scriptures teach much differently.

“True conversion gives a man security, but it does not allow him toe leave of being watchful.” Charles Spurgeon.

God Bless.
