Bible Study September 5, 2024
Romans 8:12 – 14
“So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.”
Do we know where we are going? Yesterday I needed to make a trip Belleville, Illinois so I pulled the address up on GPS on my phone and took off knowing it would lead me there. It did through downtown St. Louis to I-44 West, to back north again, to across the river, getting off at Route three then through East St. Louis only to be caught by a train. Coming back I went a different direction.
GPS is great when it works to our benefit but sitting at a train stoppage in East St. Louis on a ninety-one degree day was not what I had planned. As Christ Followers we have an internal system that guides and directs us – He is the Holy Spirt. However, like GPS we can change courses and when we do we often have to wait.
So what do we ask ourselves – I believe it is a simple question and that is “Will I follow His GPS? I know I would have arrived at my destination eventually but I could have done it more efficiently by looking in a different direction. We may not always know where we are or where we are going but we can be assured that His leadership will get us there safely.
