Joshua 6:1 – 5 (Legacy Standard Bible)

6 Now Jericho was tightly shut because of the sons of Israel; no one went out, and no one came in. 2 And Yahweh said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and the valiant warriors. 3 And you shall march around the city, all the men of war circling the city once. You shall do so for six days. 4 Also seven priests shall carry seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark; then on the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. 5 And it will be that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city will fall down beneath itself, and the people will go up every man straight ahead.”

Let us admit we all get ahead of God and His perfect plan for our lives. This plan for the destruction of the city of Jericho was about as far out in space as anyone could imagine, yet God knew what He was doing.

Joshua followed the plan set out by God doing exactly as God had directed him to do. If I had been Joshua I would never have believed that walking around a city would bring down the walls of this fortified city. I ask – would you?

Too often when God directs us to do something we try to figure it all out, consider the outcome, then change His plan to ours but that is not what Joshua did he followed it perfectly.

Think about this, what if he only walked every other day, what if the trumpet player failed to play, what if “all” the people did not shout, what if? A lot of “what ifs” but no questions from Joshua he followed God. What if we did that today? What would happen to the church, where could it go in the future?

The same is true for us God has a perfect plan for our lives, He only requires acceptance of His offer of grace toward salvation then the doors open up.

“God moves in mysterious way, His wonders to perform. He plants His footsteps in the sea and rides upon the storm.” William Cowper.
