Hebrews 11:8 – 10

8 “By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise, 10 for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.”

Abraham was a man of faith yet he made some mistakes. But to put that aside he was a great man of faith. How many of us today would pack up everything and move but not know where we are going? That was the place Abraham was in. That took faith.

He promptly packed up his family and left Haran his home as an act of obedience. All he had to go on was that God asked him to do it, no road maps, not GPS, no plans just a willing heart to go.

When he did this there were two lasting things that symbolized his journey of faith. First was his ‘tent” that was evidence of his earthly life and  a symbol of his heavenly home his citizenship was now in heaven. The promises of God were far greater than what the world offered.

Secondly, were the altars that he built. They were physical symbols of his dedication to follow God. He depended on God for everything. Everyday he walked with God.

He left us a great example of how we should live our lives – in dependence on God.

God Bless.
