2 Corinthians 11:3 – 5 (ESV)
“3 But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 4 For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough. 5 Indeed, I consider that I am not in the least inferior to these super-apostles.”
Bernie Madoff was best known for operating history’s largest Ponzi scheme, a financial swindle in which early investors are repaid with money acquired from later investors rather than from actual investment income. He caused people to believe something that was not right.
Satan will do the same thing. He convinced Adam and Eve to question God and he will do the same thing to us today. We must constantly be on guard to avoid being misled by his schemes. He will make us think something that is wrong is right he deceives us.
Paul wrote to the church in Ephesus concerning our weapons of warfare and the offensive weapon he wrote about was the “sword of the Spirit.” Our sword is the scriptures provide by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit upon the writers.
Jesus gave us a good example in scripture when He used the scriptures to ward off the temptations that Satan brought to Him during His forty days in the desert. We can correct the lies of satan with the Word of God.
“No wickedness on earth is more common than the various forms of deceit.” William S. Plummer.
