1 Peter 3:13 – 17
13 “Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? 14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, 15 but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, 16 having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. 17 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil.”
Often people confuse the idea of weakness with gentleness as used in verse fifteen above. They are in fact total opposites. One can have a gentle spirit yet stand firm in what they believe being strong. Never change to go along with something you know is wrong.
There are countless examples of meek people in the scriptures that were without any doubt truly strong people. We could always include the term meek along with weak with is also a complete opposite term. Moses was meek but certainly was not weak. He led two million people out of bondage which takes a strong person to do.
Never confuse being meek or gentle with being weak. Others may tell you that but stand strong in what you believe. Stand strong and do not allow your beliefs to be changed to satisfy others. If you do then you become who they are. Stand for right in the midst of demands made to change. Society does not dictate who we are or who we are to become the scriptures do that.
“To be truly meek means we no longer protect ourselves, because we see there is nothing wrong with defending.” D. Martin Lloyd-Jones.
God Bless.
