Luke 14:34 (LSB)
““Therefore, salt is good, but if even salt has become tasteless, with what will it be seasoned?”
Salt is an essential element in our lives. It helps us physically in our bodies to function properly. Salt has many uses such as a preservative for meat used in early days before we had refrigeration. It preserves, it flavors our food.
But Jesus said something about salt also. He told His disciples they “were the salt of the earth.” Which means they have (as we do) opportunities to influence the lives of other through whom they (we) interact.
I read where salt from the Dead Sea was mixed with other minerals and became worthless because its purity was wasted. That salt had no value or no use. It could only be disposed of. It had lost it value.
Often times things come into our lives that pollute them and interfere with our relationship with God. We must guard against that or we will become the salt referred to above that is mixed with other elements and must be disposed of. In other words “Guard your heart.”
We should strive to be pure salt not just salt.
Vance Havener said “We are the salt of the earth, mind you, not the sugar. Our ministry is truly to cleanse and not just change the taste.”
God Bless.
