Matthew 18:5-6 (ESV)
5 “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, 6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.”
Have you ever read this verse and thought is this to be taken literally? What did He saying here?
I think it comes down to the example we set for our children. Sports figures are made role models by many kids today. It puts a person in a special place in a child’s life. I once heard Charles Barkley say “I do not want to be a role model.” Maybe he understood the impact on such position.
I believe it has a lot to do with how we set an example for our children. We never grow to old to influence them. We used to live in Columbus, Ohio the home of Wendy’s founded by Dave Thomas. He was well thought of in his home town. He never finished school dropping out at the eighth grade level.
He ultimately achieved his GED in 1993 and although he said a lot he did a lot. He was a huge promoter of adoption raising millions of dollars to help families adopt. He too was adopted and that became one of his two passions the other education.
He believed it was one thing to say something yet much more to act. Act he did in all he did literally showing actions speak much louder than words.
As it has been said we are a walking testimony of who Jesus is in our lives, walk tall with conviction.
God Bless.
