I am attaching a letter from our District Superintendent Robin Bell granting permission for Asbury UMC to hold a Church Conference for the purpose of taking a vote to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church based on paragraph 2553 of the Book of Discipline. This paragraph allows for disaffiliation based on the “reasons of conscience regarding a change in the requirements and provisions of the Book of Discipline related to the practice of homosexuality.”
The meeting will be held in the church sanctuary. Please note only members of Asbury UMC are given a vote.

Permission is granted for Asbury UMC to conduct a Church Conference on Tuesday, September 12 at
6:00pm at the church. The sole purpose of this church conference is to vote on disaffiliation from the
UMC. In my absence, Rev. Melissa Dodd is authorized to preside.
Please be sure that prior notification and attendance at the meeting are in accordance with all aspects of ¶of 246 and 247 of The Book of Discipline (2016). Note that voting should be done by written ballot.
Following the meeting, please make sure to send to the district office a copy of the meeting minutes and a list of the signatures of voting members present at the conference.
