Proverbs 22:6 (ESV)
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Our parents were not in the field of education. It seems as though children born into families with music talent have the same gift, same with those born into families who are educators they just seem to be smarter, Then there are those without any special talent who thrive, It is beyond me how it happens.
But God has gifted every one of us with a special talent that only we have, thankfully none of us were left out. My dad could build and did build their own home, I remember seeing him check a gas line with a lighter to check for a leak (that is one gift I have never used yet he never blew himself up).
To some he may not have been to smartest man in the world but to me he was, he taught us so much and he may never have known it. A work ethic, he only missed work that I can remember after two heart attacks. He taught values that stick with me today. Be honest, do what you say you will do, tell the truth. Qualities that have proven to be good for me.
You see train up is more than showing. It involves showing but it involves correcting. I corrected my son differently than my dad corrected me I think we both were onto something. Training involves inspecting what you expect when instructions are given.
This is the reason we need to ask God to search our hearts, find anything that is wrong and then we can ask for forgiveness.
God Bless.
